When you can identify the symptoms of anxiety attack, you can begin to gain control of your situation and get yourself on track to getting better. Everyone begins to feel anxious or worried sometimes. We all feel anxious sometimes, but some of us feel as if our anxiety is just too much to handle. Often, when we become overwhelmed with pressure and stress and add that to other anxieties of life, we can find that panic attacks will start. For some of us, these episodes have become a way of life, but for others, the symptoms of their anxiety aren’t as clear cut.
You should know that there are some symptoms of anxiety attack that are fairly common and you may not even realize that this is your problem. By taking the time to make yourself aware of common symptoms, you can gain control of your situation.
1. One of the most common, but overlooked symptoms of anxiety attack is shivering or shaking. The body is trying to regulate your temperature and when you’re suffering from a panic attack; your temperature tends to drop. So, in order to counteract this effect, your muscles will spasm or shake. This is an effort to raise your body’s temperature by causing friction in the tissues.
2. You might also experience heart palpitations as a symptom of anxiety attack. Often, during a panic attack, you might feel as if your heart is beating funny, but it’s really just the adrenaline in your bloodstream causing you to feel that way. You won’t be hurt by this, but it is an uncomfortable feeling.
3. Often you will experience body pain, chest pain and shortness of breath during an episode. These are all common symptoms of anxiety attack that you will likely experience, but you should know that the chest and body pains are due to your muscles contracting as a form of self protection. You should also know that when you’re feeling short of breath, you will not pass out or stop breathing. In this case, you need to slow your breathing as much as you can and take the time to breathe deep.
4. Then there is the fear of going crazy. Sometimes, when our minds and bodies feel too much pressure, we can begin to wonder if we are going crazy or if that which stresses us is just imagined. You are not going crazy or losing your mind, you are in fact experiencing your pressure, but you will need to learn how to properly deal with your stress.
5. Another common symptom of anxiety attack is becoming dry in the mouth. Okay, now this might be just something that is a reaction to your anxiety, but often, when you suffer from a panic attack, you will find that the fluids in the body go to the essential areas, and your mouth is not one of those essential areas. So, you’ll wind up having a dry mouth. In an effort to ease this frustrating symptom, you should drink some water or put a piece of gum or candy into your mouth in an effort to stimulate salivation.
While these are common symptoms of anxiety attack, you should know that what you feel may be different, but you should not be alarmed by what you are feeling. Instead, by working to take note of the symptoms, you should be able to not only identify them when they come on, but also learn how to combat these symptoms in the long run.
